the gun safety rules!! That and day-glo-orange for a hunter is your friend! Story: My Dad and I were Hunting and we decided to walk through the brush area where we knew some deer had bedded down previously so we could see where to set up the next day. We split up to follow two sets of fresh tracks. I heard a noise and brought my rifle up and ready (but with the safety still on) and saw a Doe jump out of the brush about 100yards away and go bounding off. I saw some more brush move and flipped the safety off and sighted in but with my finger off the trigger. I saw the brush move again and then...out stepped...my DAD right into the crosshairs!!!!!!!! I don't think I have moved and safed a rifle faster in my life!! Let me tell you, I still remember that moment to this day!! I had never before been so glad My Dad and Uncle had DRILLED the rules into my head of knowing what you were shooting BEFORE you pulled the trigger...my heart still gets going just thinking about it. He had taken off his day-glo-orange stocking cap because it got caught on some brush and was getting ready to put it back on when I saw him. I don't like even thinking about what would have happened if I hadn't followed the rules....(brrrr)
