In fact, in many/most of them, no one is killed. However, guns are used by people who are/would be victims of crimes to prevent the criminals from causing harm. THAT is the point of the stories, not the killing/shooting. I'm sure that most, if not all, of the shooters in the stories would've been happier had they NOT been forced to use the guns as they were designed. However, using them as designed did prevent something worse from happening.
