In college, I went skiing in Colorado on a five day trip which, after paying for the trip, I had $50 bucks spending money. That also had to cover all my food for the week. Ate a lot of soup and cereal in the condo, but the important part was the skiing.
I'm not sure how much sightseeing I'll get to do. The conference has events packed in for pretty much the whole time we're there. Also, from past conferences, it sounds like everyone spends a lot of time drinking and socializing with each other...one big networking thing, but there's some *great* exposure for writer wannabe's like me. ;)
Also, I have a story coming out in an anthology that'll be released at the con and the publisher for Horror Library asked me if I might want to read it sometime while I'm there. I've got another story in another antho that I'm going to try to peddle for the guy who put it together. He's been in Afghanistan in the military and, though back home now, he can't make it to the con.
What really sounds interesting is the Gross Out contest, hosted by author Brian Keene (IIRC). I've got a story prepared for it and might have to read there, as well.
And I can't forget the Bram Stoker Award dinner, at which this year's winners will be announced.
Dang. It kinda sucks that, even though I'm going to enjoy the con, I probably won't get to spend much time looking around Toronto. I'll have to see if I can sneak away and check out some of the sights.
Thanks for the tips! |
