We're about 3-5 days from empty supermarkets if food distribution shut down for some reason ... say Bird Flu or major Teamsters strike or TEOTWAWKI or TSHTF or what have you. IF you don't have some shelved food or the ability to get food in some manner, you're something like 14 days from starvation. Seems like hunting is a bit more than a sport ... maybe hunting and the associated skills in land navigation, game handling, first aid, etc could be called survival skills.
