Some cover letter help please? by Darth_Aspie2007-02-16 09:30:35
  Here's mine (for ASIC/semiconductor jobs) by JimK 2007-02-16 10:20:08
Here's the letter I sent with my last round of job searching, about 18 months ago. Basic form is:
  • What I can do.
  • What I have done.
  • What I can do for $company.
-----------------------------------
I write with interest concerning the vacancies advertised, enclosing my C.V. for your consideration.

I have a wide base of knowledge at many levels, from ASIC ECO fixes through RTL design for ASIC and FPGA, embedded C and working on block, chip and system and ASIC post-silicon verification. I have worked on systems ranging from military satellite modems (really, really long-range wireless) to Bluetooth.

On a personal level, I want always to continue learning and to find the areas of work that are most demanding. I get tremendous satisfaction from solving intractable problems, particularly when helping other people with theirs. This is why I would consider extending this part of my work, perhaps by working with customers in a support or applications role. I have also worked with the customer in verifying a system including delivered IP.

I hope this gives you a good idea of where I would contribute most to $company, and I would welcome the opportunity further to discuss your requirements.
