fairly certain, yes I would.

But I would not want you to phone me and tell me that someone sneezed on the rhubarb I just bought, and that I might catch a potentially fatal cold. This is a question of balancing between the benefit and the required effort and intrusion.

Frankly, I don't know how dangerous salmonella poisoning is. If it is fatal in 5% of cases, and the chances of contracting it from a jar of peanut butter are 1 in 100, then the value of informing everyone is questionable. Depending on how much effort is required, that is. Don't forget - panic is something to avoid as well.
