I got (what I interpreted as) good news today... by Phoon 2007-01-25 22:58:06
One of the ERDC [East Regional Data Center; pronounced "campus IT"] people was in my 'office' today, setting up a print station. ("Office" in quotes because it's actually a lab/study hall.)

As his job seemed to involve quite a bit of waiting for reboots, etc, we got to chatting. I sense an opportunity to check on the job opening without being overly eager... conversation went something like this (going from memory, so it's not 100% accurate):

"I heard you guys were looking for people..."

"We are, actually... my name's $hisname." (I don't know if he wants to be identified.)

"I'm Ben."

"You dropped off a resume a few days ago, right?"

"Yes, I did."

"Ah, right. Your resume is sitting on a desk; we just haven't had the time to look at it yet. As you can see, we're kinda strapped [gestures toward coworkers who were passing by]... at least it keeps us out of trouble. But yes, we're looking for a few OPS workers to fill some slots."

So now I know that 1) there are still jobs available, 2) they didn't just throw my resume away, and 3) there should be plenty of hours if I get hired...
