In moderation, for most people without other problems (such as alcoholism or degraded liver function from over-consumption, hepatitis, or the like), moderate alcohol consumption has repeatedly been shown to be good for you, not bad. There are plenty of studies, including some just looking into heart issues like the Harvard link above, others into longevity, which show that you live longer with a glass or two of wine or beer or spirits a day.
Booze isn't the problem. Over-consumption of booze is. Smoking has NEVER been proven to be good for you, except in the extremely limited way (stress relief) already mentioned. It has been shown that (instead of sucking combustion by-products into your lungs) MILD EXERCISE provides immensely MORE stress relief without ANY of the bad side-effects of smoking.
If you're stressed, just go for a freakin' WALK, don't try to justify being addicted to nicotine. Walk, and you de-stress yourself and get healthier at the same time. |
