and a lot of their rituals stem for Native American and other aboriginal cultures, as well as just about anything anyone wants to stick in there.
There is no accounting for anything that people will believe. In obvious, demonstrable fact (using Scientology and COAW as immediate examples) no matter how weird a belief structure is, somebody will believe in it, sense-free or not. Look at the comet-culters who off themselves to hithch a ride on the ol' mothership, for an absolutely extreme example...
Whatever religious beliefs any particular person holds, so be it. There's just no accounting for taste. (Me, I prefer the cold and lonely realm of sceptic. Not enough evidence to convince me of -any- of this stuff, it's all fairy tales and con artists as best as I can figure.)
But even the general run of the mill idiots on the street aren't quite so gullible en masse as to fall for the Scientology schtick. Aliens and volcanoes, yee-haa. Saddle me up some o'them engrams! |
