Do people *need* bars to survive? No.
Do we need oil rigs to survive? (At this point) yes.
Bars are "optional", so to speak. If you don't want to go in a bar with smoke, don't. If you don't want to work in one with smoke, don't.
As I've mentioned several times previously, you cannot base laws on a few ignorant/stupid/unmotivated people who cannot find "unskilled labor" as somebody brought up, doing something else beyond working in a smokey bar.
Again, as I've said repeatedly, if all the workers left the environment, the environment would be forced to change. That's why unions formed (like unions or not) - and they changed the face of manufacturering in the USA. Workers have a lot more power than you think, whether or not they utilize this power is their choice. Obviously, unskilled labor (in the MAJORITY of the cases - not all - so don't take this as an insult if you work unskilled labor jobs) is not exactly full of "creme of the crop" people. What you are suggesting is that we treat everybody as an idiot, and have government control over everything, because people are incapable of handling their own issues, when quite clearly they are (if they WANT to.)
Personally, I don't like the idea of an extremely socialist (communist?!?!?!) government, I don't want to have rationed food delivered to my doorstep daily. I dealt with enough of that in Romania for a lifetime. |
