I do a "capture" of the VHS to the DVD using the standalone box. Adobe Premeiere Elements then imports the DVD files into its editing software w/o any fuss (a 30 minute DVD takes about 10-15 minutes to import into our dual processor laptop. I bought a fast multimedia laptop specifically for video editing). Once it's in Premiere, I can edit and create better menus, titles and crawls, and make very pro-looking final versions. It's also very simple to insert chapter markers in Premiere. Much more cumbersome to do with the Sony box.
