Lower my insurance to a level reflecting *no* smokers, raise smokers insurance to a level reflecting *all* smokers, and I'm a happy camper. As long as I'm not paying for/being affected in ANY way by smokers, I'm not one to tell them what to do, at all!
As for drinking, oddly enough, I think it should be the same kind of deal. If you want to drink, that's fine, but I don't want to pay for your medical problems down the road, nor do I want to worry about getting hit by drunken drivers or etc.
I enjoy a glass of wine from time to time, I've stopped my heavy drinking from before (just as I stopped my smoking). I don't think people should be punished for my choices though, if I get lung cancer down the line because of the smoking I did in the years I smoked, or the drinking I did in the years I drank - *I* should be responsible for it. Not you, not your family, not your friends, not people you've never met. My choices, my problem. I expect the same in return. Make sense? I'm not looking for unfair solutions here, I'm looking for completely fair solutions. Unfortunately, things never work out that way, do they? :p |
