Converting VHS Tape to DVD? Advice? by asayogure2007-01-25 11:58:26
well, there's generally two methods by Freakazoid2007-01-25 12:02:21

the past year or so. I have a Sony DVD/VHS recorder (has both in one box). It ran me about 300 dollars at Costco. It's totally worth it in time savings, and makes useable DVDs. The only thing that's not great is the "standardized boring menu" that it creates and it's a bit of a PITA to make chapters within the DVD. I don't bother with that a lot of the time.

But, compared to capturing the video and then burning a DVD, it's much better - you can start a copy and go do something else for a while. Recording in real time is way faster than capturing/rendering.

So I suppose it all boils down to what you decide your time is worth. If you can't afford the box personally, ask your folks to chip in or buy it outright - you are converting their home movies, after all (and it would cost them a heckuva lot more than 300 dollars to have them sent out and done).
