I don't think anyone has yet suggested banning smoking in all public places - just inside enclosed areas.

If you want to smoke, that's fine - Do it outside where the wind can blow the smoke away from me, and the large amount of moving air can dissipate it fairly quickly.

Don't do it in an enclosed area - workplaces that deal with hazardous airborne chemicals provide fume extraction or breathing protection.
