smoking ban? discuss: by unjust2007-01-25 11:09:15
Personally, I like the smoking ban by Miss L. Anyus 2007-01-25 11:22:36
It's been implemented here in Montreal (seems like we've been debating the issue forever).

My mother got throat cancer from second-hand smoke in the office. Now, even cigarette smoke on a friend's jacket can trigger an anaphylactic reaction for her.

My father's also allergic to tobacco, though in his case, it causes runny nose/sneezing. Unfortunately, with his brain tumor, he's not aloud to sneeze as it could cause an aneurism.

This means that the smoking ban has opened up many places for us to go. Before, even with "indoor... smoking where it doesnt' allow for contamination of nearby air" like we had before the outright ban, bars and many restaurants were no-go-zones for us because they couldn't keep enough of the smoke out of the non-smoking area.

(/testimonial)

Funnily enough, there was a local newspaper article on the ban not too long ago, and a bar owner chimed in to say that his patronage has increased since the ban took effect, for exactly my reason above (well, maybe not the cancer, but for avoiding the smoke).
