We did that here in Florida, and even after the politicians had their way with it, it still worked pretty well. I'm not really speaking out of some trumped up concern for safety, though, I just generally dislike smokers and the smell annoys me. So yeah, kick them out as far as possible. If they have to go outside and freeze to death to smoke, all the better, because then they aren't gonna come back in smelling of smoke.
