smoking ban? discuss: by unjust 2007-01-25 11:09:15
so mn is talking about a state wide smokign ban in restaurants and bars (it's allready no no in public buildings and workplaces)

now, from a health standpoint 2nd hand smoke is BAD. (smoking in general is BAD for you, although -moderate- smoking of cigars and certain pipe tobaccos does show net benefit in stress reduction vs adverse affects, in part due to reduced hazardous chemicals from the way the tobacco is processed)

from a recreational stand point, smoking and drinking are both legal, and various forms of dangerous.

how far can/should a gvt go to ban a "workplace hazard"? research is now showing that use of fiberglass insulation is potentially as hazardous as asbestos when being installed/removed. are the innumberable jobs that require exposure to hazmat or known hazardous environments to be banned?

shoudl firefighters being allowed into burnign buildigns be banned since there is a known hazard?

what about cooks working over griddles/fryers that are producing oodles of chemicals inthe process of searign meat or aerosolizing carbonized fats?

as often pointed out many barkeeps/wait staff either smoke themselves, or are indifferent to the danger because of the pay. how is that different from deep water oil rig welders?

will be around off and on. i'm torn on the issue myself, leaning towards majority nonsmoking area, but allowign indoor (rememberin it gets brisk here in winter) smoking where it doesnt' allow for contamination of nearby air.
