...that lump sum is pre-tax. The installment plan is basically an annuity payout, the lump sum is the "principal" behind it. So you'd still have to pay taxes on the lump sum. Dang it, I was going to buy a ticket yesterday as a bit of birthday foolishness (which is Tuesday) but 5 hrs of sleep+ evening class meant I drove straight home.
