I was in a session about copyright, trademarks, etc., the other night, and the presenter (a lawyer/engineer) asked the question (paraphrased): "If you have a blog that allows comments, should you monitor/moderate the comments?"
Answer: Nope.
Reason: If you don't enforce a structure on the comments, you can try to cop out of any legal issues by claiming that you are akin to a 'common carrier'... you provide the pipe and are not responsible for the sewage that pours through it.
Now, given that UF has, is, and will be a monitored community, that's something to keep in mind. If 'you' are visiting here, one can safely assume that you are a fan of UF. As such, don't screw the management by putting them under the legal gun through posting of inappropriate content. |
