| I am sure most of you saw the discussion about the new rules and the jury we had a few days ago. Much of the feedback was very useful, thank you.
I'll be proceeding with jury selection in the next day or two. In the meantime, I offer the following draft for your consideration and feedback. Please keep in mind that we need to keep the rules both simple and realistic.
Remember that we are aiming for self-policing where possible, and the old "don't make the board a worse place" rule is being heaved out the window. Particularly with a jury, that kind of rule is far too subjective to be practical.
Please consider these rules as a draft-in-development. Offer changes, additions and any other suggestions that come to mind. I'll do my best to compile the lot of them.
- Do not be offensive and do not be easily offended.
- Use civil language. If you must swear, obfuscate it.
- Remember there are human beings at the other end. No ad hominem attacks.
- Post only that which is considered work-safe. No porn, nastiness or other net.sewage.
- Don't do or post anything illegal, including links to illegal sites or files.
- Do not bait others. Do not take any bait being offered.
- If you are to err, err on the side of caution and consideration.
Do not link directly to pages that contravene these rules. If you link to anything that violates these rules, offer a clear warning in the ID9K, but again, don't even ID9K-link to porn, gore or anything illegal.
The Moderators enforce these rules. Please remember they're volunteers. If you disagree with a moderator's decision, you may appeal to the jury. The jury's verdict will be either to sustain the decision or overturn it. The jury's decision is final and may not be appealed.
Acknowledge the spirit of these rules and do not argue the letter.
