I think that there is a difference: at least for the God of the Bible the case is made very clearly that He has worked in history and still works in history (e.g. the Exodus, Jesus of Nazareth, the fall of Jerusalem in 70 AD, the return of Israel to their land etc.). This, as well as the mere existence of the created world, is considered as evidence of His existence and His character. The evidence from the physical universe would go something like this: "the Universe has not always existed, all effects have some cause, so there must exist somebody/something that caused the Universe, and that something/somebody must always have existed (or must have a cause of its own)". This still doesn't prove the existence of God, but would be considered as evidence.
Furthermore, faith in the biblical sense is much more than simply assenting the existence of God(s). Fundamentally, it implies at least some measure of trust in Him... trust in His character as well as trust in His ability. It is in this sense that "disbelief" should be "suspended". However, to simply believe everything that anybody says in the name of any religion, is not the same thing at all.
