There is some straw (obtained yesterday - importing bales of straw by plane is EXPENSIVE!!!). The two (new puppy and older not quite puppy) share, helping with body warmth. Both are Husky / husky-derivatives.
Food is delivered, with water included. We warm up the food so that it is not frozen fully. High energy sled-dog formula food, with occasional char head & guts.
Water... at -40C, that becomes aproblem. They are getting some with the food, but otherwise it is eating the snow. We clean up enough that the snow is NOT always yellow.
Still. They do like being in the truck when we take them out for runs, or in the house when we give the little one some milk (about 2-3 months old, followed Helen home from work - we called it a very determined bitch... seems I am not that good at assessing itty-bitty puppy genitals... MR. Crabby-Pants is still very determined about what should be -him inside NOW).
This summer I will be rebuilding the dog-house to a better design. Snow is a good insulator but Styrofoam is better. Also want to get it off the ground and give it a "tunnel" entrance to reduce wind effects. |
