much regular people feel threatened by hostilities. And this is one of the reasons why I feel there is such a difference between initiating hostilities and responding to them. Of course, I'm assuming that no government could possibly contemplate initiating hostilities that might result in an attack on US soil - only hostilities that will keep the fighting far away. Well, not contemplate surviving such an act.

The Iranian hostage crisis did not threaten the regular man in the street. And the response in Kuwait was voluntary - the US did not have to join the coalition. Also, again, it did not threaten the regular man in the street in the US. This is what I mean by peace - the lack of immediate threat to themselves felt by most Americans.
