only a percieved one. consider the current mexican "They're stealing our jobs!" outcry. How many of those folk are actually in danger of losing their jobs to Mexicans? Some, sure, but I'd wager a minority of those kicking up a fuss about it. People think there's a danger they're going to lose something. It may be actual, like a job, wages, etc, or ideological, like their culture. As long as they think they're going to wind up with less than they started, they'll fight it.
