They're merely the first to be set off. Even generally laid back folk will get violent under not uncommon conditions. It really just depends on how far the situation has done. I do think you have more people who tend towards the violent than not though. True pacifists are RARE (as in those who will NOT fight, even to protect themselves or their families). And they're usually the first to get slaughtered, because they make the easiest targets in a conflict.
