| about the disk thing yesterday - I went to your link and burned the CD... I didn't understand about booting from the CD, however (the documentation wasn't "hit me on the head obvious" about that, and last night I needed to be hit on the head, unfortunately.
But for what I needed to do (and what I ended up doing) was:
- Backing up the data on the D drive (that was the drive making the scary whining noise)
- creating a new partition on the C disk (from the unallocated disk space) and formatting the new partition
- unplugging the old D drive
- naming the new partition "D"
- restoring the D drive data to the new partition
- Cleaning up a lot of old junk on the D drive (including windows 98!)
I inadvertenly erased my installation of Eudora, and that's forced me to finally switch to Thunderbird for email.
Thanks for the help, though. I have the disk utility on a CD in case I need it in the future (and I might, someday).
