...bravo for you. The Escape is at least one of the more responsible SUV choices.
I simply can't abide the argument that a couple and their one or two small children REQUIRES an Excursion so there's "enough room for everyone". Then, dad ends up using it as a commuter vehicle ~85% of the time it's driven. All I can say in that situation is "thanks for using 3 times as much fuel as you need to".
You, on the other hand, are likely somewhere in the 20s. Laudable for an SUV, and not horrible in general. And it's clear that you need the 4WD sometimes.
Hybrids are a kludge. Clean diesel is what's coming. Give it a year or two. If the oil companies and car companies will quit buying and restricting the production capacity of large, high-capacity batteries, then plug-in electrics become practical, too. |
