Vacation and sick leave count toward final retirement dates. You get paid for them when you leave a civil service position. There are upper limits on the amount you can save up, though, and any hours above those limits are lost unless you burn them up. We have one fellow who is retiring in July this year, he has scheduled off every Monday and every Friday until his retirement date, just to get his balance below this amount. So for the next seven months, he works a three-day week. Must be nice.
