The english wikipedia has a different type of potato masher pictured. May be easier to find in your kitchen, as the "wire masher" (no hit at all in google?) seems to be the more popular variety in USA. BUT ... the type from the NL wiki gives you a very good "mashed potato" with very little work. I saw the picture of the wire-type masher, and it instantly tells me that this is more work. Is that why you tried the "automatic" thing first?
