That is exactly what "went wrong".
You have cooked your potatoes right (other answer: they can be split by turning a fork in them)
You peeled the skin after cooking: no problem. It really doesn't matter.
But ... you forgot to use the "potato masher" .. (picture under "aardappelstamper" in the dutch wikipedia : http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aardappelstamper )
The mixer or blender is much too rough for poatoesq. It turns them into ... ecologically approved paper glue. You could add water as well, then spread the mixture on a sieve, dry it and make your own paper (it might crumble, though). But it's a good glue.
To "mash" potatoes, you could even use a fork, or anything which only "crushes" the potatoes, and doesn't crush the individual cells.
I vaguely remember that "Natuurwetenschap en Techniek" once had an aryticle in it, that reported on a "home experiment" of someone making mashed potatoes using a mixer: same result as your blender. You get "squished and liquidified" potatoes instead of mashed.
Oh, I like adding an egg, but for only four potatos that may be too much of extra moisture.
Otoh : you could re-use your potato sauce, congrats on the inventive recuperation. (Should try that idea, I'm SURE in my family that will be a novel type of dip-sauce ... consider adding your recipe to the uf cookbook ? *** now I have to go looking for that one again, I'm afraid I forgot its existence) |
