as a Dog-fighter. It is more of an Attack aircraft even though it has the "F" designation. Most likely it has the F designation to seem "sexy" to pilots and congress who generally view Attack craft as secondary to funding a Fighter project.
From Wiki:
"..."F-" was usually an air-to-air fighter, "B-" was usually a bomber, and "A-" was usually a ground-attack aircraft...."
"Still, since the Stealth Fighter is actually primarily a ground-attack plane, the fact that it retains an "F-" designation is one of the reasons there are several other theories." |
