FOSS OS suggestion for 80386SX? by etwas_egal2007-01-19 00:30:05
How low of a wattage do you need? by nitpickin2007-01-19 06:38:10
    I'm looking for 15 watts or less. by etwas_egal 2007-01-19 07:29:33
And cost is a factor, but as budget allows, I hope to extend to something more portable. Like the computer on the left here.

And I would also like to switch to a "reasonably" sized solar PV system as a power supply. In the meantime, some of the old laptops are rather low wattage (I now have a laptop declaring it's maximum needs as 15 watts), and I can get used to the (logical) system size and start working on appropriate power supply control.

In the meantime, I can start working on getting my software needs scaled to the hardware. I'm looking at firewall, LAN monitoring (thus the desire to have an independent power supply), internet connection "heartbeat" monitoring, mailserving, and LAN/household FM media serving.

The really micro version I envision moving to flash storage, and making it mobile, so I'm likely to drop some of the LAN features, up the media services, and add GPS&GIS logic. And perhaps some better wireless network discovery logic...

Someday, maybe, this can become shoe computer II.
