How to prevent a revolution. by kelli2172006-12-13 22:13:05
  It's even simpler than that. by Peace_man 2006-12-13 22:45:25
An informed populace is a free populace.

A well educated, well informed populace cannot be kept under the heel of a tyrannical government very long. Whether it has weapons or not, if it wants to free itself from oppression, it will.

Education that concentrates on conformity rather than free thinking; on learning politically correct facts rather than logic, is a worse enemy of freedom than any amount of oppressive legislation.

Control what a person knows, and you will control that person. This goes for an entire population as well.

The Internet is possibly the most powerful tool for the advancement of freedom in existence - if it is not taken over by purely commercial interests. And what China is doing in imposing censorship is about as bad as corporate interests flooding the Internet with crass commercialism.
