DNA should be taken from babies (to fight crime) by DesertRat662006-12-13 10:23:58

DNA can already be used... by jdelphiki 2006-12-13 15:08:06
...for the reasons you specify. It can be mandated by the courts whenever there is a reasonable suspicion that a crime has been commited or to verify genetic links between people (including paternity).

Why is it necessary to create an all-inclusive db, just to make it easier to track people? Why erode the barriers of reasonable suspicion/search and seizure by making putting a search tool that circumvents that need at the fingertips of every law enforcement agency?

Also, there are a lot of ways your DNA can be used against you, outside the info that the government has on file. Sure the government can screw you over pretty well with the info it already has, and you listed a number of areas where your privacy is already intruded upon. Why add DNA into that unpleasant fold?

And finally, I agree that you and I can stop the government from misusing our DNA information. But I contend that the only sure way is to do that is to not allow the government to start collecting it in the first place. Once they start collecting it, our window for stopping abuse runs in two to six year election cycles. Even in two years, a lot of damage can be done.
