Man with no pulse considered a medical breakthroug by techi8702006-12-13 13:33:47

...done with hearts that did not pulse, only pumped continuously.

For a long time, doctors thought that people actually needed to have that pulse in order to survive. Now, evidently, they're getting close to illustrating that a beating heart isn't absolutely necessary, although I'd still be worried that the valves in the blood vessels might not function properly if the blood is flowing continuously.

Also, I wonder if the mechanical heart will increase its pump rate in response to activity or adrenaline. If not, he could black out from exercise. Nice thought.
