a Luncheon adventure by voxwoman 2006-12-13 14:35:16
My brother took me to lunch today, after a small detour took him to "Little India" (Iselin NJ) on the way from my dad's house to my house. He didn't know we had a large Asian Indian community tucked away nearby. The last time I ate in that town, I was the guest of an Indian co-worker, who knew which restaurants were the good ones. I didn't take notes, and I didn't remember where I ate last time. So we randomly chose "Bombay Talk" for lunch.

In Bombay Talk, they speak no English. So ordering from the menu was pretty interesting. I ordered something (whose name escapes me at the moment, but it was a "Masala" and maybe chouri? choudi? something like that, anyway), and my brother ordered something like Uttapattisomething. A few minutes go by, and the waiter brings out this ENORMOUS fried round flat bread (almost like a tortilla) wrapped around some curried potatoes. the thing was almost 3 feet in diameter, and covered in cayenne pepper, and REALLY good. They brought us a brown soupy thing with onions in it, for dipping (I hope) and a small green pasty thing that was almost sweet (I think it was chutney, but I'm not sure).

We had no idea HOW to eat this thing, and I hope we didn't make fools of ourselves as we attempted it. My brother's dish looked like a pizza, but wasn't. It was another fried bread, thicker this time, with peas, carrots, and some parsley-looking greens in it. That was also tasty.

I still have no idea what it was we ate, but I liked it, despite the massive amounts of MSG they put on it.

(and yes, your good vibes helped today - stuff still isn't working on the websites, but the rest of the day went much better than the morning)
