People who say one thing and do another aren't hard to spot, politically. We can vote against them. The positions these folk are in aren't often assumed by people with NO political history. They've usually worked their way up, through smaller, more local offices (state politicians, appointed positions, etc).
There will likely be a small minority though we cannot track because they ARE new to the scene. They should be kept in check by the majority of the folk we DID elect though, and could be removed at the NEXT election.
Assuming they managed to get a bill passed, come the followingn election, we have the power to vote in people who would REPEAL that bill.
The ultimate power rests with us. Not the politicians. They get away with what they do because we allow them to.
