information. It would be intersting to see how the buyback effected the number of firearm related crimes. This report only covers deaths, so if a someone was shot but not killed it won't effect this report.

This stat is like any other it looks good by itself. When you look at the whole picture things can change. According to the Australian Government the homicide rate has been generally the same for the last 10 years. It also seems that more knives are used in homicides than firearms. Unfortunatly I can't find any information on the trend of knife homicides. It would be interesting to see if the change in firearms laws increased or decreased the number of homicides with knives.
