The figures clearly show that gun crime & death was declining rapidly even before those laws. The use of a second trend line indicates to me that the drop was not a significant as they'd like in order to show the result they wanted.

Additionally, the article said noting about the possible social causes for the reduction crediting it only to the buyback.

Oh and by the graph... Gun deaths had already halved in the period they showed prior to buyback.
