Why not put portable cameras on people's shoulders so that their crimes can be reported as soon as they commit them? We'd have nothing to worry about as long as we never committed a crime?

Okay, I'm being silly here.

But I feel quite strongly that creating a database of such uniquely personal information is a huge intrusion on the rights and freedoms of the people. They'd be effectively saying that they want to hold onto our DNA profile against the chance that we might ever commit a crime. Or any of our descendants, for that matter.

Even if I believed that such a process would make me safer from criminals, I would be greatly concerned about the much more significant risk that I would face from whatever government wanted to implement it. I am not an automaton and would not want to establish precedents that would lead me to become one.
