Cooking as in "put stuff into hot water" opposed to frying "put them into hot oil". Frying is more tricky if you get time time wrong (as it can be burned), if you cook something too long you usually still have it, it's just a bit too limp :) It also usually makes less smoke... ;) Baking is also relatvely easy, as you can everything assemble at your leisure, put it into the oven for $time (or a bit longer) and tada... Frying is for when you are a bit more used to pans and all that stuff... and when you have a good basic cooking book that explains things nicely.
