They've been publishing studies like that for years.
There is normally some catch somewhere in the small print or they use some odd metrics to asses performance.

e.g. When a Unix vendor publishes uptime percentages they normally use the uptime of the system over the full assessment time. When MS publish uptime percentages they don't count scheduled downtime for maintenance and patching in the numbers.
Or when calculating TCO they include sending your whole IT department on unix training courses.
