Camera advice: Something small and userfriendly? by vectorz2006-12-13 06:05:00

Canon PowerShot S500 is quite good if you have a decent sized pocket to put it in, the credit card sized cameras just don't give the picture I feel my friends and family deserve. Or if you have a *really large* pocket you can get yourself a Canon EOS 350D :D Nuff kidding it's a great camera best camera I used < 10000 Sek (1$ = 6.98 SEK)

Hints
Ignore Digital Zoom : Digital zoom is the measure of a cameras ability to magnify pixels in an image. You don't get a close up shot with digital zoom, you get an enlarged version of the best optical zoom your camera supports, which ultimately results in grainy looking video. This is the same effect as blowing up a digital image to 500% (or more) in image preview mode on your computer.

Try the camera:
When you are at the store ask to try the camera if they have a dark place like a toilet or a display room that can be dimmed to test your camera, darkness is to test how well the camera preforms with bad light (very important) Do bring your own SD card and fill it with different pictures of the store and look at it on your workstation this will insure that you get a camera that you know will do the job.

Don't become blinded by pixels:
Pixels are important but they should never be the reason of your purchase try the camera and see that it takes pictures taht are to your satisfaction, if it's six or eight megapixels don't matter that much.

I am no photographer but I know a little bit about it, hopefully someone else that is a pro will come and give you all the details on the technology that you should look for.
