The main external emissions from uranium salts are X-rays (plus neutrons, of course, but natural salts are relatively weak emitters by weight), which don't generate cerenkov radiation. The exposure of film by uranium salts (which is how Roentgen discovered X-rays in the first place) is a bit different - not visible light.
