Why are Aussies so against nuclear power? by shminux2006-11-20 21:46:41

Most Australians have been brought up with the firm "We are not, now or ever, a nuclear power". As a result, I doubt many have stoppped long enough to learn anything about it.

However, there is also the point that the majority of our population has been permanently and significantly poisioned by the nuclear tests carried out by the UK. It was in Australia that the Strontium contamination from nuclear fallout was first studied as a direct result of those tests. It is the Strontium contamination studies that forever (hopefully) put an end to atmospheric nuclear testing.
