Complex racism question by Kickstart2006-11-20 20:00:38
  Here's my opinion... by LordDominik 2006-11-20 20:29:08
...then I'm going to bed.

What we are dealing with is not an issue of racism, it's an issue of nationalism. Our race is human, hence the expression, "The Human Race" There are those who have grown quite fond of being politically correct and using terms like African-American, to reference those who are black for instance.

Are they under the impression only black people come from Africa? In fact, some 40% (estimated) of the African population is NOT "black". Someone can't be African American and be white, Egyptian, middle-eastern, or of other heritage? Perhaps it's time for Geography / Sociology lesson.

If you are born in one country (i.e. South Africa, where some 28% of the population is not "black") and immigrate to another country (i.e. the United States), this is what makes you African American. If you are born in America, yet have a lineage that goes back to Africa, then you are American. If the opposite were the case, I would be a German/Irish/English/Swedish/Scottish/Native American.

I believe that we as a people as a whole need to quit the political correctness and just call it what it is. Not all black people are from Africa, and not all Africans are black. If we want to accept others, and truly want to be equal, then we all need to stop seeing others as different colors or races, and start seeing one another as people, regardless of color, gender, religious preference, sexual orientation, or in what ever other way someone can find to discriminate against someone. I'm not some bitter black, or Asian, or Middle eastern, or Jew. I'm a fed-up human being. Stop debating these issues and start doing something about them.

Keep the change, because we could all use a little.
