Complex racism question by Kickstart 2006-11-20 20:00:38
Let's say you're having a discussion online and you make statements akin what Bill Cosby says about African-Americans pulling up their pants and getting an education.

You get called racist and you really don't want to leave an impression on the publicly-readable internet that you might be racist. You want to make it clear to everyone, including potential future readers, that you are not a racist.

The standard response would be similar to this: "my best friend is Chinese, a good chunk of my family is native indian, my friends growing up were mostly east indian", but then is that trotting out examples of your open mindedness racist?

What is the appropriate response to people who make accusations of your alleged racism?

(FYI: I am not currently in this situation...I'm just curious what people think on the subject)
