To resolve once and for all (Net etiquette) by dennismv 2006-11-20 16:39:14
You are writing an email to a never-before seen stranger. You are requesting information. Do you put "Thanks, [Your Name]" at the bottom or not ?

Somewhere in the depths of usenet etiquette I found that one shall not say "thanks in advance" or the like as it may irritate the receiver as receiver may feel obligated to provide information as they were already thanked for it.

Thus is it better to
* not thank at all and thank later in another email ?
* thank anyway, but without rubbing it in, i.e. "thanks" or "thank you"
* some other way ?
