The UCLA Tasering incident by DesertRat662006-11-20 13:28:36
I've seen most of the video by wheresthefish 2006-11-20 14:40:40
(I found it too difficult to actually watch it all) but I've been unable to obtain a reliable account of exactly what happened. Combining various sources, the impression I get is as follows:

1. Student is discovered in the library by Security without proper ID.
2. Student refuses to leave.
3. Security return with Police.
4. Student complies with demand to leave.
5. Security officer takes hold of Student's arm in attempt to force the Student to leave quicker.
6. Student objects to being manhandled while he is complying with orders.
7. Security continue to manhandle Student because he's now objecting instead of leaving.
8. Lather, Rinse, Repeat.
9. Police step in as they think Student is no longer cooperating.
10. Student objects to Police action as he thinks he's trying to comply.
11. Police subdue Student with tazer.
12. Student unwilling/unable to comply with Police demands as he thinks he's being brutalized.
13. Lather, Rinse, Repeat.

Is that a fair assessment?

If so, it looks like an entirely avoidable situation caused by an obstructive student (is there any other sort?) and a Security guard attempting to show him who's boss (if you're really the boss, why did you have to call in backup?). Compound that with a Tazering policy that legitimizes its use pretty much whenever anyone resists arrest, and this sort of thing is inevitable.
