It is certainly a long way from set phasers to stun. but OTOH they are quite a bit better than shooting the person, or knocking them senseless with a baton, if they are a threat. That said, my experience is that cops are really terrible human beings, so I have no doubt that they would make poor use of any tool you gave them.
